- A lot of depression is chemically based
- Sometimes you need medicine to deal with depression, and sometimes you need to deal with some repressed issues
- Some people are wonderful with counseling… Some are not
- Marriage is not some big romantic date
- Good counseling should be done by someone who is working towards reconciliation, not just the individual
- The Bible says “Let each esteem the other better than himself”
- Tony explains Freud’s theory of the “id”, “ego”, and “super ego”
- Scripture is not there to make us unhappy and to live restrained lives, but are guidelines to teach us how to live the fulfilling life that God wants us to live
- Transcendence-There are norms and values that come from God
- Joke: You know you’re old when your wife says “lets go upstairs and have sex” and you say “I can’t do both”
- Every phobia can be reduced to the fear of one thing, death.

- You are in the image of God, but there is a lot of filth in your life and that is why coming to a personal relationship with God is so important
- 1 John 1:9- God will not only forgive you, he will also cleanse you
- The Spirit of God enables you to do what you cannot do in your own strength
- The fear of death can be taken away from you by faith in Jesus Christ
- Karl Marx says that people are driven by economic interest
- Economic classes struggle with each other in a capitalistic society
- Story about the meeting at Eastern University announcing an increase in tuition
- The problem with Marx is that he attacks religion. He says that religion is set up to justify the system
- Story about when Tony was in the fourth grade and the spelling baseball game
- When it comes to the system, friendship doesn’t mean a thing. The only thing that means anything is success in the competitive system

- It is not easy to be a Christian in our system
- We must create a system that does not destroy people in a competitive process
- Marx says “the way you think is largely controlled by what social class you belong to.”
- Poor people read the Bible differently than rich people
- There are more than 2000 verses that call on us to respond to the needs of the poor
- Matthew 25- Jesus describes Judgment Day
- Joke: You don’t have to be Baptist to go to Heaven… But why take a chance
- You can’t bring good news to the poor without bring some bad news to the rich
- Tony talks about the book “Reading the Bible Through the Eyes of the Poor”
- Tony explains the context of Niche’s statement “God is dead”
- Niche called himself the “anti-Christ”
- The church argues about evolution on all the wrong grounds
- If evolution is true and there is no God, the only way to survive is power

- There are two types of people- reasonable and emotional
