- Why did Jesus come?
- Joy is different than happiness. He never promises happiness, but he will carry you through the midst of struggle with his joy.
- You don’t have to be holy, you just have to be surrendered to a Christ that says “who so ever will may come.”
- Jesus says, “I have come to declare that the Kingdom of God is at hand.”
- He came to transform the world through transformed people
- Isaiah 65
- Nothing will change the world like the church of Jesus Christ
- Matthew 5- The Beatitudes
- Blessed are the poor
- Story about Siddhartha and the Guru in India
- Unless God is first place in your life, He isn’t going to be in your life.
- Story about Blondin the tightrope walker who walked across a tightrope above Niagara Falls
- Blessed are they that mourn: the broken hearted
- Story about the three malnourished Haitian boys
- Christ is not asking you to do what you cannot do, He is asking you to do what you can do
- Blessed are the meek: Blessed are those that show powerless love
- Philippians 2
- Story about Mother Teresa and the Norristown, PA State Hospital
- Mother Theresa had powerless love. She had earned authority by her loving sacrifice.
- She had authority even though she had no power
- Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness: Blessed are those willing to become good
- Blessed are the merciful
- If you don’t know how to forgive, if you don’t know how to show mercy, you are going to suffer, not the other person
- Blessed are the pure
- None of us are righteous, but God wants to go to work on us and make us righteous. He wants to make us into pure people
- Blessed are the peacemakers
- Story about Hassim the man from Baghdad who owned a Manhattan diner and Gordon his daily customer
- Blessed are those who are able to show the love of God even to those who do not know Jesus Christ
- You should become this type of person because there is no other life that will give you a sense of fulfillment
- Jesus says “Seek first the Kingdom of God”
- Story about Fred Craddock and the greyhound dog that chased the rabbit
- Blessed are you if you live out the commandments of the Lord
